Granite for Unity 5.6.0 is released!

Good news, Granite for Unity is now available for Unity 5.6.0! Apart from the upgrade to the new Unity version, we've added two new features: larger GPU caches and mip pinning. And we are excited to announce that we now have off-the-shelf support for Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Android (with some limitations on Android).

  • In some cases, the system would be limited to using only 256MB of GPU cache, even if you set the GPU cache size higher. In our new update, the maximum cache size is 4 times larger. For many applications, you'll notice that performance will improve with the new update and that streaming will be much less noticeable.

With mip pinning, you can now force Granite to always keep specific mip maps of your textures in memory. This can be useful to guaranty a minimum texture quality, even in extreme cases where the camera is moving very fast or jumping all over the place.

  • Apart from Windows PC, Granite for Unity now also supports Xbox One, Playstation 4 and Android. These platforms are not included in the standard seat license so contact us if you want to target these platforms.

Our new release also has some improvements to use Granite for Unity together with source control. We’ll share more information on this soon.

One important thing to note is that, due to some new restrictions in Unity, Granite for Unity 5.6.0 will not work in the latest Unity 5.6.1. We are working with Unity for a fix.

We’re looking forward to seeing what you can do with Granite! Do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions.
