Granite for Unity now available for Android

At the end of last year, we released a project that used Granite for Unity and supported Android devices. We've been iterating on porting our SDK to mobile hardware for a long time, but we needed a good opportunity to showcase how powerful our tech could prove for mobile app developers.

We are happy to announce that we now provide our Unity plugin for Google Daydream (high end Android, Pixel phones) from 2017.2 and beyond. Granite SDK, the underlying middleware, now also supports Android. We will add support for additional Android devices on demand.

Virtual Production to VR with CBS Digital: a case study

Over a hundred of 8K textures have been used in this Daredevil VR experience thanks to Granite for Unreal texture streaming system.

We’ve been working on game engines for many years now and it’s been amazing to see how video game technology and real-time render engines have found their way into completely new industries.

This is why we listened with the highest interest CBS Digital's Craig Weiss and Jim Berndt present their work on stage at SIGGRAPH 2017. Granite for Unity 5.4

We are happy to announce that we just released an update of our streaming plugin Granite for Unity.

Among the different improvements of our technology, we can most notably mention:

  • The upgrade to Unity 5.4.
  • A significant improvement of the performance. In some cases, the Granite workload per frame has improved by a factor of 10.
  • Now get an even more solid frame rate with the HTC Vive or Oculus headset.

Solfar Studio and the magic of Everest VR

Last March at GDC, Sofar Studio's CEO Kjartan Pierre Emilsson was on stage to present how they created the magical feeling of summitting the Everest in their acclaimed VR Experience Everest VR.

Photorealism was a key element to achieve full immersion. Pushing the limits of models, textures and shaders was the only solution while still trying to work within the constraints of UE4, while maintaining a high performance in VR.

Graphine in Montreal VFX hub

Last week we were in Montreal for the VFX and animation conference effects MTL. It was a great opportunity for us to mingle with our partners in one of the most buoyant places in the world for VFX and animation. With companies from Quebec and Ontario and British Columbia, Canada was well represented. We also met companies from the USA and even Mexico! It was a great opportunity to meet with existing and future Granite users.
